As a company we recognise that it is only by good stewardship that we can ensure the continuing viability of the world's forests. We have endeavoured over the years to develop close relationships with suppliers so that we can work together towards responsible sourcing and supply.

We have cemented relationships with a large number of suppliers able to ship PEFC, FSC certified material and FSC-Controlled Wood. We have been instrumental in persuading many suppliers to seek and obtain their own environmental certification.

In June 2005 we achieved FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody Certification, as well as BM Trada's Forest Products Chain of Custody Certification, which covers the following schemes:

• CSA (Canadian Standards Association)
• MTCC (Malaysian Timber Council Certification)
• SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative)

Our PEFC Certificate now covers CSA and SFI timber.

In 2011 we added FSC Controlled Wood certification. When supplying Controlled Wood under our FSC-CW certificate we undertake to supply timber ONLY from suppliers with their own FSC Controlled Wood Certification. In doing this we will endeavour to avoid sourcing and trading: -

• Wood from Illegally harvested forests
• Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
• Wood harvested in forests where high conservation values are threatened by management activities
• Wood harvested in forests converted to plantations or non-forest use
• Wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted
  

Our buyers pay regular fact-finding visits to source (and potential source) countries. Our buyers and our environmental manager keep up-to-date with TTF, FSC, PEFC and TRADA publications.

We aim to promote and increase sales of environmentally certified material, both under our own certificates and, as agents, under our suppliers' certificates. Our purpose is to meet the increasing demand for such material from our customers.
